William “Billy” Mitchell was hired as the first full-time City Manager of the City of Fort Myers in July 2007. Mitchell, 59, was the Assistant City Manager of Newport News, Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee State University and his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Virginia. He has more than 20 years of experience in municipal government, having also worked in the Virginia cities of Chesapeake and Charlottesville.

Mitchell is married to Camilla, his wife of 36 years. They have two adult daughters, Chekisha, who lives in Seattle, and Yoma, who lives in Newport News, Virginia. When he’s not working, Mitchell enjoys traveling, reading, playing golf, motorcycling and biking.
