Chief Hilton C Daniels
The Office of the Chief entails a unique combination of administrative, law enforcement and community responsibilities. Police Chief Hilton C. Daniels assumed those responsibilities July 18, 2001, after joining the police force in 1979 and rising through the ranks.
Naturally, the Office of the Chief has many management functions. Chief Daniels sets all policies and rules and regulations of the police department and supervises the employees who report directly to him: two majors, the Administrative Manager, the Public Information Officer, the Crime Analysis supervisor and his staff assistant. He also oversees the Professional Standards Office.
The Chief of Police is a City of Fort Myers department head and has a number of responsibilities at City Hall. Chief Daniels regularly meets with the other department heads, attends all City Council meetings and is involved in the drafting of all law enforcement city ordinances. In addition, he is a member of the Public Safety Committee and coordinates projects with other city department heads, Mayor Jim Humphrey and City Council members.
The Office of the Chief has a number of law enforcement responsibilities as well, including responding to major incidents of crime and attending Neighborhood Watch meetings. Chief Daniels meets daily with his Command Staff to watch for crime trends and aggressively find ways to apprehend criminals and prevent future crimes.
Lastly, Chief Daniels is very involved in the community. He routinely speaks to local schools, area businesses and community groups. Chief Daniels is assisted by Senior Staff Assistant Angela Orselli.
