With one of the major home repair issues in Florida being “Chinese Drywall”, Hart Mortgage Services decided to provide its clients with some knowledge on the subject by interviewing Kyle Curry of Captain Steamer. Kyle has been at the forefront of trying to come up with a cost efficient solution for Chinese Drywall and was nice enough to share some of his time and knowledge with us. Hart Mortgage Services: You have become one of the experts in the Lee County area on “Chinese Drywall”. Could you give us the Readers Digest version of what “Chinese Drywall” really is?

Kyle Curry: I don’t think there are any experts on Chinese Drywall at this time. In a nutshell “Chinese Drywall” is drywall that was imported from China after Hurricane Charlie because there was a drywall shortage. The problem is the imported drywall is off gassing small amounts of sulfur. The sulfur is damaging A/C coils, refrigerators, and anything with copper in it.

 

Hart Mortgage Services: How can someone tell if they have “Chinese Drywall”?

Kyle Curry: Look at your A/C coil and ground wires on anything electric. If it is black and looks like it has soot on it you probably got it. You also will notice a rotten egg smell in your house at the affected areas, that smell is the drywall “off gassing” small amounts of sulfur.

 

Hart Mortgage Services: Are there any health risks with “Chinese Drywall” besides it smelling like a Chinese dumpster?

Kyle Curry: They have done many tests so far and have not come up with single item besides the fact that Chinese Drywall smells bad.

 

Hart Mortgage Services: What would you recommend they do if their house does have “Chinese Drywall”?

Kyle Curry: Your most costly step would be to rip the drywall out and add new dry wall and then try to match the paint hoping it looks decent. This is very hard to do and usually will lead to many other home repairs and remodel projects that all started from ripping out some drywall. Before you do anything like that you should call a remediation company, like Captain Steamer, which has the technology and experience to fix your problem with less damage to your house in turn saving you money and major headaches.

 

Hart Mortgage Services: Getting away from “Chinese Drywall”, what exiting new products or services does Captain Steamer have for 2009?

With the rainy season coming up I will be ready for floods in houses, apartments, office buildings and anywhere else that will involve minor or major flooding.

 

Hart Mortgage Services: Some people do not know that there are major health advantages in having your carpet cleaned on regular basis. Can you explain?

Kyle Curry: Yes, your carpet can hold tons of allergens, Mold Spores, Dirt and Germs. A through Steam Carpet Cleaning at least once a year can help keep these issues to a minimum. Many people do not really think about this when it pertains to their health. If you have any kind of breathing problems, like asthma, you should really have your carpets cleaned every 6 months.

 

Hart Mortgage Services: When are you going to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship? (Editors note: Kyle Curry is a world class Jiujutsu fighter, has about 1% body fight and I think he could beat me up by looking at me.)

Kyle Curry: When they allow Biting and Fish Hooking.
